DBECC 2009

November 12-14, 2009 marked another successful year of the Dalhousie Business Ethics Case Competition (DBECC).  Memorial University, Ryerson University, Indiana University, Arizona University, University of Toronto, Simon Fraser University, Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Florida, and Dalhousie University all competed in the three day event.

All teams competed in the first two rounds, where they presented their analysis of business ethics case studies written specifically for DBECC. Teams were judged on their ability to effectively balance the ethical, financial, legal, and social consequences of their decisions. Memorial University, Simon Fraser University, Arizona University, and University of Toronto were the top four schools who advanced to the final round on Saturday.

The final round, open to non-finalists and guests from Dalhousie, proved to be very competitive with all teams presenting comprehensive and impressive case analysis. In the end, University of Toronto placed first, Memorial University placed second, and Simon Fraser University placed third.

DBECC organizers would like to thank the teams, sponsors, judges, and volunteers who helped make this year a possibility. Planning is already underway for DBECC 2010, and organizers are excited to build on this year’s success.
